Setup
The Main Character
To start I roll up a character named Mattick Kabeera. I picture him as a man who relies on his wits to survive. He is skilled with a bow (via the Archer and Fletcher assets), and will discover he can tap into the mystical energies of the animals he hunts (via the Bind asset).
I do not know his background vows or bonds yet. I want to learn more about the situation first.
The Situation
I do not have any particular situation in mind, so I am going to rely on the Oracle to get me started.
Where Does The Story Begin?
- ORACLE 3: REGION:
1D100 = 15Ragged Coast - ORACLE 7: SETTLEMENT NAME:
1D100 = 59A historical event. What happened here? What place or practice commemorates this event?1D100 = 40Brokenhelm
A broken helm mounted on a spear resides at the center of the village, marking the burial place where Bastien Torrens fought off wave after wave of raiders and secured the safety of the village for many years to come.
What Troubles Brokenhelm?
- ORACLE 9: SETTLEMENT TROUBLE:
1D100 = 52Sickness run amok.
The winter has been particularly unforgiving. A withering disease causes the flesh of the sick to turn black and rot before killing them. Mattick has not caught he disease. Not yet. There are rumors the shaman in Graybrook (another random name from the Oracle) has concocted a cure, but Graybrook is a difficult journey to the north made worse by heavy snow and unruly skies.
Bonds
Now that I know a bit about what is going on, I am going to make some bonds for Mattick. I will make a community bond and two personal bonds.
- Brokenhelm (community)
- Kormak (village elder)
- Naila (village shaman, daughter of Kormak)
When Mattick first landed in the Ironlands, he arrived at Brokenhelm and never left. He is one of the village’s hunters and has a good reputation among his peers. He is one of the few people still well enough to gather food.
Vows
Naila, the village healer has fallen ill. Without her, all of Brokenhelm may succumb to the disease. Mattick makes an Iron Vow to Naila’s father, Kormak to retrieve the cure from Graybrok and bring it back.
- Save Brokenhelm: formidable background vow.
- Get the cure from Graybrook: a dangerous vow requiring travel to Graybrook.
